District Basketball

Posted Date: 2/13/25 (4:43 PM)

We start District Basketball at Healdton this Friday.  Carnegie Girls vs Sterling @ 6:00 pm.  Carnegie Boys vs Healdton @ 7:30 pm.   OSSAA would like us to remind fans and students.

  1. SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS SHOULD NOT ALLOW THEIR STUDENT BODIES TO SIT BEHIND THE OPPOSING TEAM’S BENCH.  FANS MAY OR MAY NOT BE ASSURED SEATING BEHIND THEIR TEAMS.
  2. THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED THAT MAY BE A DISTRACTION TO THE PARTICIPANTS OR FANS.  THESE ITEMS INCLUDE BANDS OF ANY SIZE OR NATURE, NOISE MAKERS, CONFETTI, BANNERS, EMBLEMS, PLACARDS, SIGNS, FLAGS, THUNDERSTICKS, BALLOONS, LASER LIGHTS, FAT HEADS, MEGAPHONES OR ANY OTHER POSSIBLE DISTRACTIONS.
  3. Policy VI (page 49)
This is a reminder that any school representative who publicly criticizes a contest official or members of the OSSAA Staff or Board of Directors…is subject to sanctions.

(Probation will take a team out of the playoffs.  The OSSAA can reinstate on appeal)

    Policy V. (page 49)
This is our egregious act policy.  Make sure parents are aware that their actions can cause a team to be put on probation.
  4. The OSSAA has established a formal rule in regard to and requires good sportsmanship to be shown by all Players, Coaches, and Fans.

The rule covers all OSSAA-sanctioned events and was established in efforts to improve sportsmanship at athletic events.

Any “egregious” unsportsmanlike behavior by Coaches, Players, or Fans may result in their removal from the premises of the game/activity. Two or more times in the same season / same sport may lead to the SUSPENSION of the Team and/or Individual from the rest of the season.

The OSSAA cited some the following examples of “egregious” unsportsmanlike behavior:
    - Fans verbally or physically attacking officials.
    - Fans verbally or physically attacking other fans.
    - Fans verbally or physically attacking coaches/school officials.
    - Coaches verbally or physically attacking officials.
    - Players getting into fights with other players while shaking hands at the end of contests.
    - Student sections verbally chanting inappropriate or demeaning chants at individuals, teams, or officials.

Good sportsmanship starts with ALL OF US. We ask that our fans come out to cheer on our student-athletes and help support their efforts to learn and improve in their endeavors on the court. Please be aware that failure to abide by the policies and rules governing good sportsmanship may result in the loss of the privilege to attend activities/events. We appreciate your help in this matter and look forward to a FUN season of cheering on our Wildcats and Lady Wildcats together!
